SOUTH COWICHAN – Malahat fire chief Rob Patterson wore many hats.
The late chief’s keen sense of humour and serious dedication to community seemed embodied in his beaten cowboy hat rigged with a Plexiglas fire shield.
It sat beside his weathered chief’s helmet proudly perched on honour guard pillows during a January 14 celebration of life at Frances Kelsey Secondary School where 1,000 folks remembered the gentle guy who gave selflessly to his family, friends and fire crew.
“We never realize how many people are touched by one person,” Patterson’s wife, Tanya, told paramedics, firefighters from across B.C., kids, politicians, police and family who packed the gym after a sun-filled, piper-led parade to Kelsey from Kerry Park.. Read Full Story >
